Dear friends and artists,
I've decided to create a Facebook Professional account to promote your awesome Tributes to Valentina to promote Fantagraphics Crepax collection.
Don't judge me wrong, I love you all a lot and I sincerely apreciate all your support with some of my ideas, but I need to split in my mind what's Professional and what's personal in order to gain more focus in the work that I do, be it curating exhibitions, book collections, interviews, presentation videos, prefaces to books or book presentations.
I'll organize the tributes by artist in alphabetical order and put each artist in bold to be easier for you to see your tributes and where they were exhibited along your quotes about the character Valentina and your Biography aswell.
Many thanks to all of you for all your work and hope that you continue to support some of my ideas.
Special thanks to Gary Groth, Caterina Crepax and my muse and source of inspiration, my kitty Ilvie that was stolen from my sight recently.
Marko Turunen - "Valentina hasn´t been published in Finnish and I have never read it. I have only seen pictures. There are other comics from Crepax in Finnish but Valentina has always felt like his best and most interesting work. I don’t know why it´s not published here so far. I am glad Fantagraphics is now publishing collection of Valentina and I am able to read the stories.
My Valentina is living in alternative reality in Finland. She is wearing a wind suit and she is nordic walking. She is still sexy but in other way. Like braces could be sexy in some cases…"
Marko Turunen (b. 1973 Kotka, Finland) is a Helsinki-based illustrator and artist. He graduated from the Turku School of Fine Arts (now Turku Arts Academy) in 1997.
Comics play a leading role in Marko’s work, and his books have been translated from Finnish to French, German and Italian.
Turunen won the first prize in Kemi’s Nordic comic competition in the novel series in 2000 and the Grand Prize at Fumetto festival in Luzern in 2003. In 2007, the Finnish comics society granted him the most important Finnish comic prize, Puupäähattu. Ovnis á Lahti was nominated in Angouleme 2011 for best comic book of the year (didn´t win).
Turunen has made illustrations for several Finnish magazines and newspapers. He has also worked as comic and illustration teacher.
Turunen has more hair on his head than people in average. The hair is thin and slippery but there is lot of it. His barber is forced to make it thinner so it looks like normal hair.

Sami Makkonen - "The 80s. The big part of comics that were published in Finland was from DC and Marvel. And I loved the stuff. Then Crepax, Manara and Serpieri hit the shelves. I started to understand the possibilities of the medium"
Sami Makkonen is the award-winning artist of comics such as Deadworld: War of the Dead, Deadworld: Restoration and Hatter M. graphic novel series vol. 2-5. Other works include RYSE: Sword of Damocles, a digital interactive graphic novel for Microsoft and covers for Clive Barker`s Hellraiser: The Dark Watch series.
Tommi Musturi - "Valentina seems to be the great fixation of Guido Crepax."
Tommi Musturi (b. 1975, Juupajoki) is a Finnish comic and fine artist, editor and a publisher. His own work includes participations in numerous fanzines, five book serie called 'The Books of Hope', lots of small publications made out of his sketchbooks and drawings plus a graphic novel 'Walking With Samuel'. Musturi was the editor of an experimental comic anthology entitled "Glömp" for ten issues and 12 years, being awarded in Finland, Sweden and France.
Musturi's comics are often almost silent and without action. He uses symbolism to discuss on existential themes: loneliness, individual on proportion to surroundings, freedom and overhelming nature. In his work he uses great variety of different techniques, to support the varying content, story and message to deliver.
Musturi has taken part in plus one hundred exhibitions and curated himself a dozen. He lives in Tampere and works in the comic art collective and studio Kutikuti that's based in Helsinki. Since 1995 he has released music, comic and art books under the name Boing Being and since 2006 been the co-founder of a Finnish publishing house Huuda Huuda. At the moment he's working on another book with Samuel and a long graphic novel entitled "The Future" which tells stories of the past, present and future of mankind.
